Imperial Yellow Chinese Porcelain Ink Box With Engraved Phoenix and Poeny Flowers

The embossed reigned mark is of the Qian Long era( Qing Dynasty ). However the estimated vintage of this ink box is about mid to late 2oth century.

Chinese Porcelain Ink Box In Imperial Yellow Glaze Decorated With Embossed Peony Flowers And A Pheonix.

A nice bright yellow glazed Chinese porcelain ink box. The glazed is thinly applied. There are numerous rust spots on the yellow glaze, but surprisinly very few on the inside of the box which has a whitish glaze. These rust spots could have been intentionally created to simulate a very old porcelain piece. What is more likely though is that these are ash contamination from a wood fire kiln probably from an inexperience potter.

Chinese Flocking To London To Buy Chinese Art

From 3 November 2011 to 12 November 2011 is Asian Art In London week. This yearly event is drawing crowds of Chinese eager to buy up their lost heritage, something they cannot do Mao's time in China. With newly created wealth they are pricing out many Western collectors of Asian art who are now becoming sellers.

One of the reasons for the change is the mood of patriotism in the Chinese to bring back all the treasures lost to foreigners in the last days of the Empire.

But the people making the most money from these are the British auctions houses and art dealers, like Christies, Bonham, Sothebys and the many dealers in London with art from the Qianlong period fetching millions of dollars.
